How to find your purpose in life? Well, that’s a question that has bothered me all my life. Bothered is the right word, because I’ve always felt like I didn’t know what I’m good at. Therefore, I never really knew what I was supposed to do with myself or my life. I kept feeling like I wasn’t good enough at anything, until I realized that I am good at a lot of things. In the process I think I found my purpose in life. And I say I think, because life changes all the time so I might change my mind later. Or find myself in a different position with a different goal. Which would lead me back to this question: How to find your purpose in life?
Where to begin?
I don’t have all the answers, but I can share my experience and what I do to find purpose. After all, living on this planet without a purpose often makes people very restless and sad. We’ve all had those moments where we felt like we would not even be missed, if we weren’t here. I know I have, and I guess that’s a normal thing to feel and experience. After feeling like this for a while, I started to get annoyed with myself. That’s when I began finding my purpose in life. I was basically fed up with being a Salty Sally.
I also don’t like giving up and so I started looking for things I’m really good at. I figured out I’m good at analyzing situations and people. I’m good at telling stories through content, sharing my experience and through that give other people the motivation to keep going. I found out I’m really good at marketing and PR. I’m good at connecting people, matching them based on skill and personality. Once I figured that out, I had a place to start from. I knew I had to take my skills, my favorite things to do and combine them to find my purpose.
What the fudge is purpose?
Purpose can stand for a goal, a meaning or an intention. Therefor I see finding my purpose in life as using my life for something (I find) very important. What’s important is different for everyone, which is a good thing! If we all had the same purpose, a lot of problems would never get solved. We would all work on the same thing and start lacking in other areas. So be aware that your purpose should be your own, not someone else’s. And yes, some people do have the same purpose, because for some things we need more people.
The bottom line is that you are allowed to shape your own purpose. For me it’s showing people you can start at zero and become your own hero. Yours might be staying at home, raising three beautiful kids who will change the world for the better when they’re older. There is no such thing as a bad purpose, everything happens for a reason. Even if it doesn’t seem to have a reason at all. My main point is that you should fully understand and love your purpose, and don’t let anyone else tell you it’s not right. You decide which purpose fits your life, as long as it doesn’t hurt other people.
Found my purpose, now what!?
Action baby, all you need is action! When you find your purpose, it’s go time. Even when your purpose in life isn’t fully clarified yet. You have to start making some moves to find out how to optimize your purpose in life. For example, I’ve been making videos on Youtube since 2008. I knew there was something there when I started vlogging. Somewhere along the road I got distracted and I started making videos which weren’t really me. I forgot my purpose, which currently is showing you can go from a zero to a hero.
But that purpose wasn’t that clear to me in 2008. It is now and we have arrived in 2020! Your purpose will define itself as you go and grow as a person. The main tip I can give you, is to be practical about it. Start making actual moves, don’t just think about it. Let’s say you want to rescue dogs. No dogs will be saved if you sit on the couch and just think about it. Nope, you have to get up and get those dogs to safety: Practical purpose baby! And no, you don’t have to be perfect right away. It’s the intention that counts, as that is a big part of finding your purpose in life.
How to find your purpose in life?
Finding your purpose in life is a process. Don’t get angry at yourself for feeling like a drifter. Apparently you need to be somewhere else right now, before you get to start on your purpose. In my case I got fed up with my salty self and started making moves. It all happened at the right time though. Before that I constantly felt like I was behind on my peers, my friends and family. They all seemed to know exactly what they were doing. Turns out, it actually just seemed that way, they weren’t sure either.
How to find your purpose in life starts by figuring out what’s important to you. What are you good at and what makes you happy? What did you miss in your life and do you want to give that to others, after you finally get it for yourself? What makes you angry, what needs to change in your opinion? Someday that will pop up in your brain and you’ll realize that’s your purpose. And you’ll know that you have to be practical about it, because you read this article. An article written by me because I know I have to be practical about spreading my message. As my purpose is to motivate you to get shit done, because you can and you are awesome.
Now tell me, what do you think your purpose is or might be?
