I looked at my body and touched my face. My body looked bloated and my face felt super tight, and not in a good way. I knew it was time to get back on track, as I’ve said so many times in 2019. But creating a healthy lifestyle is a process. So is dealing with life and getting into the right mindset. Therefor I thought it would be a good idea to show you what I ate on the first day of 2020. As this was the day I chose to get back on my imaginary horse with rainbow colored hair and glitters. You always need glitters, duh!
I decided to start with something really easy: Not eating. I know, what does that even mean!? Well, it means I started my day with intermittent fasting and I had my first meal at 12.00 in the afternoon. Intermittent fasting is the simplest way to get a grip on how much you eat. You don’t have to buy anything special to do it, because you’re not eating. So you are saving time and money, and I like that! I also hate eating breakfast as it often makes me nauseous just thinking about it. Skipping breakfast is pretty much the easiest thing in the world for me.
My intermittent fasting schedule is basically the 16/8 method. I fast for 16 hours and then I have 8 hours to eat. I start eating at 12.00 or 13.00 in the afternoon and I stop at 20.00 at night. Do I eat all the time during this period? No, I do not. I eat my lunch which is usually bigger than a regular lunch. Then I have a snack between 15.00 or 16.00 and I have my last meal between 19.00 and 20.00 at night. My snack and dinner time can vary a little bit, because it depends on my workout schedule. If I go to the gym I eat between 19.00 and 20.00, otherwise I tend to eat around 18.30.

That’s the intermittent fasting schedule that works for me. I also eat Keto style as much as possible. In my case that means I try to stay between 20 to 50 grams of carbs per day. I’ve already lost a lot of weight before because of Keto. My goal is not to stay in Ketosis all the time and I don’t have the eat under 20 grams of carbs per day to get into it either. How many carbs you can eat to get into ketosis is different for everybody, keep that in mind. At the moment I mainly eat Keto to lose about 4,5 kg and to keep my sugar/insulin levels right.
I’ve noticed that eating more than 100 grams of carbs per day makes me shaky. I also get fat really fast, as I get most of my carbs from sugary items when I go over 100 grams per day. What can I say, I like to eat cookies and brownies a lot! But only when I’m super stressed and boy, I been stressed all day every day in 2019. Hence the weight gain and not being in the right mindset to get it off. Therefor I’m doing intermittent fasting to get my focus of food in a positive way. And I’m doing Keto to eat healthier and lose the unnecessary weight.
Now that you know my strategy to lose the 4,5 kg that I’ve accumulated, it’s time to dive into the food. I tend to eat a lot of protein when I eat Keto style. I like fresh eggs, beef, chicken and fish. I eat a lot of vegetables which I fry or steam. I have little snacks like dark chocolate and a macaron here and there. I’ve also been experimenting with drinking Matcha tea and eating Japanese and Korean dishes. These two countries have amazing low carb vegetable, fish and chicken dishes. And they are very good at portion control which is very helpful to me.
