Making my house a home, never thought it would be something I’d be thinking about. To be honest, it’s been a long time coming. I moved into my apartment about five years ago, when I was still in school. I got an amazing deal for the amount of money I’m paying. No wait, it used to be an amazing deal. Because this house has some major hidden flaws. Like annoying neighbors, bad plumbing and a heating system that fails to work a lot!
Unfortunately, I do not have the option to move just yet. So making my house a home suddenly became important to me. Especially after working at home for 2,5 years, which made me feel like I was at work constantly. This really made me appreciate a homey feeling even more. Now that I work at the office a lot, I can finally feel like coming home again. My house just doesn’t look homey enough. I moved in as a student and more than half of my stuff is second hand.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not ungrateful but I have the need to create my own style and space. Yes, you can definitely see this is my house because it’s filled with my favorite things. It’s just not pulled together and the second-hand stuff is starting to fall apart. As a 29-year-young woman I’m more than ready to say goodbye to that student life look. I have to be honest thought, it’s easier said than done, haha!
Most people already have their houses in place within the first year they moved in. Yes, they might have some ongoing projects but their houses are pretty much done. My house constantly feels like a mess and not like a house for an adult. I never thought it would bother me this much, but it really does. Mostly because it makes me feel like my life isn’t in order and I guess that is something I don’t like at all.
Why I’m writing this article? Well, I figured there must be more people like me. People who have put their living situations on hold in other to get other things done. Weird, because I’m the type of person who can truly appreciate a nice looking home. I just never took the time to create one of my own. Have you ever looked at your house and felt the same? If so, why did you put creating a home a side? Were you to busy too?
I just want to create a house that looks like it’s totally me. Like you are always welcome and able to fall on the couch and have a nice conversation. Yes, that is what I want and aim for. I guess I’m finally growing up, haha! I also feel the need to be proud of my house. It is of course a part of my daily life. So yes, I’m excited to invest into my interior and make my house a home. I already started with moving furniture around and adding beautiful green pillow cases. I’ll of course keep you updated on this ongoing project.
Will you join me in creating yourself a home?
