I am on a roll when it comes to reviews! I have another one for you today and it’s about the Laura Mercier Sheer candleglow sheer perfecting powder. I haven’t bought much make-up in the last three years. I’m trying to finish everything I already have. Unless I’ve run out of something I use daily, like my Maybelline Fit me powder. I’m almost out and I wanted to invest in a powder that makes my skin look less dull, dry and powdery. This winter has left my skin pretty dry and I can use a powder that freshens up my skin.
I decided to give the Laura Mercier Sheer candleglow sheer perfecting powder a try. After a quick search on the internet and reading raving reviews, it seemed like a good option. Many women compare this powder to the Hourglass powders or say this one is even better. I was looking for a powder to make my skin look more glowy without ending up like a disco ball. Many other brands have finishing powders like Laura Mercier, but the ones I tried were all too glittery, gold, pale or just ugly in my opinion. So let’s see what I think about this one.
Product: Sheer candleglow sheer perfecting powder
Brand: Laura Mercier
Rating: 10
Promises: A multi-purpose, modern all-over pressed powder that sets, perfects, and finishes, leaving skin with a diffused, luminous glow. This silky pressed powder has just enough sheer color to add the perfect, subtle glow and brighten up a complexion with a soft-focus finish. Apply with different brushes to customize your finish and coverage and create multiple looks.
Soft, luminous finish leaves a natural, all-over glow. Sets your makeup without mattifying your skin. In a range of subtly perfecting shades for all skin tones. Like the Laura Mercier setting powders, this Perfecting Powder has a soft-focus effect that subtly blurs the look of fine lines and imperfections. Doesn’t settle into fine lines or pores and never looks cakey. Oil-free, talc-free, non-comedogenic and dermatologist tested,’ according to Lauramercier.com.
Price: €38 at Bijenkorf or $38 at Sephora
Pros
The packaging is nice, simple and sturdy. I’ve always liked Laura Mercier packaging and this compact is good as well. Let’s talk product, because that is the most important thing of course. There are six shades to choose from and I choose number one called Fair. I also tried shade number two, but that one is too warm and gold for my skin tone. I opted for number one because that matches my foundation (Estee Lauder Double wear) perfectly. This shade is not too pink and not too yellow, I love it!
The texture of the Laura Mercier Sheer candleglow sheer perfecting powder is very nice. Laura Mercier describes this as a pressed powder, but it looks like it’s baked. The texture itself is silky smooth as promised. I had seen comments online about using a denser brush for a better result. That’s why I used a kabuki brush to apply this beautiful powder over my foundation. I was a little too excited and used a bit too much on my forehead. But as you can see, it’s not even that bad! Even though I used too much powder on that spot, my skin doesn’t look overly glowy or shiny.
It’s a multipurpose powder according to the brand and I agree. I use this powder as a setting powder, but you could also use it as a finishing powder. During the summertime or warm weather, you could also use this powder by itself for a nice subtle glow. I would use a fluffy brush if you want to us it as a finishing powder and a denser brush, like a kabuki when you want to use it as a setting powder like me.
This powder keeps my foundation in check all day. I do buff it in really well and I use about two light layers. It doesn’t look cakey, dry or too powdery on my skin. And it doesn’t settle into fine lines and pores as promised. The best thing about this powder is that it looks good all day. It doesn’t leave my skin dry and it makes it look healthier. The small shimmering particles give the perfect amount of glow, without looking like I fell into a pot of glitter.

Cons
I haven’t found anything I don’t like about this powder. But I do want to share some things you could think about before buying the Laura Mercier Sheer candleglow sheer perfecting powder. It’s good to know that you’d probably need a normal setting powder underneath it if you have oily skin. You can’t expect full coverage from this product. If that’s what you’re looking for, don’t buy this! It really is a multipurpose powder, but you need different brushes to make it work. Make sure you at least have something like a kabuki brush to really bring out that candleglow.
The verdict
I’ve been using this powder for about two weeks now and I’m hooked. I never thought a powder with shimmering particles would look so great on my skin. But it really looks healthy and it makes me look my skin has some natural luminance. Would I buy this again? Yes, I will! I don’t think I’ve ever owned a setting and finishing powder that works this well. It gives my sometimes very dull and dry looking skin that boost I was looking for. In the subtlest way it makes me look and feel more alive. I know, it sounds very salesy, but it’s true. I really love it!
